Whitley Bay Uncovered..........What Happened to this WebSite ?

Whitley Bay Uncovered was one of the first successful websites to "uncover" the antics of the nightlife and clubbers in the seaside town of Whitley Bay. The word "uncovered" was used to denote an expose of behind the scenes photo diary of the legendary atmosphere experienced bt the party goers in the pubs and clubs.

Every Monday, many locals and visitors alike would wait in anticipation to see who had been featured on the Whitley Bay Uncovered website. Many would be worried and would be reminded of their drunken antics, now exposed for all to see. Others just liked the thrill of seeing themselves on the site. It was all good fun and done in the best possible taste .

"Uncovered" was often used to describe fly on the wall TV documentaries often of a salacious nature. "Ibiza Uncovered" and "Greece Uncovered" were two programmes which managed to reach an audience of millions. Whitley Bay Uncovered was not quite in the same league, but it did rank as one of the most visited whitley bay domains.

So sucessful was the Whitley Bay Uncovered concept that their owners decided to expand their idea and cover the worldwide nightlife antics of International young clubber's namely the 18-30's.

Thomas Cook, the international travel agent was none too happy and was soon to take action after the domain name "Club 18-30 Uncovered" was registered to a person in Whitley Bay. . The case was put in the hands of Nominet UK dispute resolution service. Thomas Cook wanted the domain handed over to them. Thomas Cook believed that as the owner of the goodwill, reputation and trademark of the "Club 18-30" first used in the UK in 1965, that this action undertaken by the individual in question was abusive and would have a negative effect on their business.

After a lengthy dispute and several appeals it was declared that the domain name "Club 18-30 Uncovered" was not abusive and it was legally declared that there was no juristriction that the domain should be transferred to Thomas Cook.

Whitley Bay Uncovered had not entirely won the war against the "big boys" as the domain was subsequently cancelled.
