Unfortunately it is impossible to review all of the establishments offering accommodation in Whitley Bay, but there's some guidence on the establishments that belong to an association or are inspected by a National Awarding body such as the RAC or AA.
Guest Houses that are in the Whitley Bay Hotelier's Association are: The Chedburgh Hotel, Esplanade Lodge, Aarden Grange, Collingwood Guest House, Melrose Guesthouse and the Shangrila Guest House. These are all located on the Esplanade. The next street along is South Parade and the following are members of the Association, The Glen Esk Guest House, The Aald Northville, The Avalon Hotel and the Venture Inn.
On North Parade there are also other bed and breakfasts who are Quality Award inspected: The Seacrest Hotel, The Bermuda Guesthouse, The Sunholme and The Belgica Guesthouse. These are the three main street of bed and breakfasts but there are also other B&B's in the Whitley Bay Hoteliers association which are located on other streets. Cherrytree House located on Brook Street, The Dorset Hotel, ( now called the Northumbria) the Lindsay guesthouse and The Resthaven hotel, all located on Victoria Avenue. The Lynndale and the Lucerne Guest house are loacted on a quieter street Ocean view.
If you do not want to be based right in the centre of Whitley Bay you could also choose from the Holford Guesthouse in Cullercoats or the Martineau Guest House in Tynemouth.
Some of the Bed and Breakfast accommodation mentioned above also have ratings, three or four stars from Visit Britain.
There are numerous other guest houses and bed and breakfast accommodation in Whitley Bay who are not members of the Whitley Bay Hoteliers association. These have not been accredited Quality Awards from North Tyneside Council and standards and facilities vary across them. The Acorn Lodge, Oaktree lodge, Santilena Caledonian and the Sea Brae are all loacted on the Esplanade. Just around the corner from these you can find the Aabba Guest House, the Whitehouse and the Sandraey guest houses.
Located on North and South Parade the following can be found, Argyll guest house, the Mayfair, Manor Court, Banna Joes, Waverly hotel, Newquay Lodge, Alcatraz, Craws Nest, Lighthouse and the Amalfi Lodge.
Choosing an independant accommodation provider can often be difficult as it is often pot luck. Try checking out www.tripadvisor.com and look at the customer reviews. These are written by people who have stayed in the establishments themselves rather than the hotel/ bed and breakfast owners. They often give a more candid approach. You could also contact the local Tourist Information team at tincs@northtyneside.gov.uk
There are many small bed and breakfasts but also there are several large hotels offering great facilities such as the Rex hotel, Windsor hotel, the Venture Inn Hotel, The Esplanade hotel, The Grand Hotel in Tynemouth, The Park Hotel and the New Royal Hotel. Several smaller hotels also offer good facilities such as the Chedburgh Hotel, the Avalon Hotel, the Ambassador Hotel, The Malborough Hotel The Dorset hotel, The Parklodge hotel, Seacrest Hotel, York House Hotel and the Cavendish Hotel.
Many of these are members of the Whitley Bay Hotelier’s Association and are inspected by the tourism department of North Tyneside Council and awarded the Quality award. Some also have ratings from the English Tourism Council, Visit Britain, AA and the RAC. Details of members of the Whitley Bay Hoteliers Association can be found on their website www.whitley-bay-hoteliers.co.uk
