
Shopping is the most popular reason for people visiting Tyne & Wear and most who visit will appreciate the wide range of shops and facilities available. There are details of the main shopping areas below, but this is by no means an exhaustive list. There are also several retail parks in the area: Silver link at the Junction between the A19 and the A1058, another at Byker and a further one at Kingston Park: about 15 minutes by car from Whitley Bay.

Whitley Bay offers a range of niche shops that cannot be found elsewhere. If you are looking for something different you might find it here. There is also a small indoor shopping mall with a few high street names as well as the high street ( Whitley Road) with other common shops such as Woolworths and Select. During the year there are also special events that take place on the high steet such as the St Nicholas Fare and the Northumberland farmers market. | The Metro Centre is Europe’s largest shopping centre with over 320 shops & department stores. As well as the usual favourite high street names there are also a number of smaller shops that you will not find elsewhere in the North East. Car parking is plentiful and free. There are plenty of places to stop for a bite to eat aswell as a range of entertainment such as a cinema and a mini theme park with rides and amusements. | The Royal Quay Outlet Shopping Village is located about 15 minutes away from Whitley Bay by car. There are a wide variety of shops offering designer brands at lower prices. If you are looking for a bargin it might be worth a visit. There’s plenty of free parking and a few places to eat including a Burger King.
